Erweiterung Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg

The art academy in Hamburg is to be extended with studios for photo, film and electronic media, plus large showcase-spaces such as galleries, lecture hall, café etc. Rather than placing a self-sufficient new building next to the protected historical structure our proposal originates in a concept of continuously building on the same ideas as the existing structure. All art departments are situated in a couple of houses connected to each other by wings. As the 1950′s refurbishment set its mark on the 1920′s brickwork-monument the new building presents itself in a contemporary design that carefully applies proportions as found on the site. The facades will be executed in brick-red pigmented in-situ concrete
